The article pretty much describes the bike.  The swingarms were our first balsa cored ones.  This is how the newer ones are made.  Alex did a cool glitter/epoxy finish on the lugs.  We initially tried using the drum brake in the Nexus as the rear brake, with the braking forces passing through the chain.  This was done in order to bring the disc rotor weight in from the end of the swingarm, but it interferred with the suspension movement.  It was a neat idea though.  We used some special and very expensive bearings as the suspension pivot.  They were about 3.5" OD and  3" ID.  The actuall bearing cross section was about .25" square, like a miniature tank turret bearing.    We machined the Caramba cranks to take a single 22T chainring.

The famous Nexus bike.  Famous because GT came out with a bike like it right after we took this one to the Big Bear WCS
