RACE INFO:
10-23-21 Saturday 1PM
, near Albuquerque, NM

I would like to bring the Capulin race back this year. It is the day before Day of the Tread, so some of the road riders may not make it out, but it is not really a roadie course anyway.  Epic old school CX race, in a lovely area.

Note that there will be a minimum of about 15 riders signed up for this event by the night of Friday 10/21/21. So if you want to come, and you want the race to happen, pllease sign up at the link below.

Directions: Take I-40 east from Albuquerque to the Tijeras exit, the road will "Y" right off the exit. Go left, which will come to a stoplight and become NM14 north. The speed limit around the stoplight is 30mph and it is a popular radar trap area. Continue on north 14 about 5.5mi to NM536. (The Crest Road)Go left and up another ~6mi to the course. Capulin Picnic Area is a little over a mile past the Sandia Peak Ski Area on NM 536 heading up towards Sandia Peak. Google Maps Placemark

Parking is limited. Please do your best to carpool. Pay your $3 parking fee. It is a $50 ticket if a ranger tickets you.

Course is very hilly and sits at about 8800ft. The course will go down a really fun paved switchback descent, them partway back up the pavement and then up a hike a bike through the picnic area. We will not do the long dirt road climb we did in 2015, but we will go back into XC trails north of the snowplay area, which we did not do in 2015 About half woodlsy dirt singletrack and half pavement.  Some of the uphills are steep so I would recommend a 1 to 1 low gear or a little lower if you climb in small gears like me.

Entry Suggested donation of $20. No entry fee. Cash preferred, but you can pay online or I have a card reader. Juniors free.

Gearing Sometihng like about like a one to one gear is probably good, or at least close to it.

Weather will be cool or cold up there, maybe 20F less than the city, so bring lots of warm clothes, gloves, arm warmers, tights.  High will likely be in the 50s maybe cooler.
